Prototyping
Prototyping, is the fourth step in the Product Realization Process. Here is where your product comes to life!
Proof-of-Concept or Prototype?
You’ve got a design; the next step is to create either a Prototype or a Proof-of-Concept. What’s the difference, and how do you choose? Having produced hundreds, if not thousands, of prototypes over the years we can help you navigate your options and guide you to the best choice for your product and budget.
Proof of Concept
A Proof of Concept is meant to demonstrate a specific function of your product, and “prove/validate” that it works correctly. This is a stepping stone to the final prototype(s). If your product is complex or has lots of functions that must work together, you may save money in the long run by choosing to make several “Proof of Concept” iterations, rather than a full prototype of the entire product.
Prototypes
A prototype is meant to look and function like the final product and are frequently used for demonstrating to investors, pre-sales, or getting end user feedback. Prototypes can also be useful for evaluating multiple shapes and sizes of the same item for fit, finish, feel, or even packaging development before production tooling is completed.
True To Life Prototypes
Do you need something that will function, look, and even feel like the real product? We have developed post-processing techniques, in-house, that make your products look real, and function like they would in mass production. Our techniques can even simulate dual injection or over-molded parts that bond rubber to plastic
Prototype Tooling
Sometimes the best, or only way to make a testable prototype is to make prototype tooling or short-run tooling. This option is often needed when testing the limits of a material or process that is necessary for your finished product, or when the quantities you need exceed the cost of 3D printing. Often the prototype tool can be modified or built with several iterations in one shot to keep costs lower or expedite the process. Either way, we will reach out to our network of tool makers, and short-run manufacturers to help you find the right option.
Professional Quality 3D Printers
That means high quality prototypes and the best pricing. We can even do large prints in certain materials. Speaking of materials, we will simulate your product in a number of different materials. We have materials that simulate various plastics, different durometer rubbers, and even ceramic-like materials. All in very high surface quality.
